How does Kim Jong Un's wellbeing uncertainty make sense?

Confusing and often contradictory information emerged Tuesday on North Korean leader Kim Jong Un's wellbeing. This was accompanied by widespread speculation about his whereabouts, his medical condition, and the future of the world's only communist hereditary regime.

Initial rumblings started after North Korea's most critical holiday came and went on April 15 without Kim feeling odd.
Then Daily NK, an online north-focused South Korean-based newspaper, announced that Kim underwent a cardiovascular system procedure on April 12 and was being treated in a villa in Hyangsan County.
CNN was unable to confirm the claim, but a U.S. official said Washington is monitoring intelligence, indicating that Kim is in serious danger after surgery. A second source familiar with intelligence told CNN that the US closely tracked Kim's health records.
Yet a South Korean official told CNN that Kim is "believed to be in other areas of North Korea than Pyongyang with other top North Korean officials," and "no suspicious signs have been found confirming rumors about his health conditions." It is uncommon for the South Korean government to reveal Kim's location.
